How to connect to Alexa
If you have two or more Smart Controller, please note that all Smart Controllers need to be online in order for Alexa to work properly.
Please, before integrating with Alexa, rename any room in the Neo Smart Blinds app with the same names from devices you already have in the Alexa app. Repeated device names may create conflicts and may not work.
Skill update to include Open and Close commands
On November 5th, 2020 we've deployed an update to the Alexa skill to migrate the Neo Smart Blinds devices from switch type to blind type. This change allows the usage of "open" and "close" keywords in voice commands to control your blinds. You will find your blinds in the Alexa app under the "All devices" menu (on the Devices page).
If you are having issues since the update, please consult our Troubleshooting.
Amazon Alexa is being sold in several countries, including US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Our Amazon Alexa Skill is available in English in 4 locales (UK, US, CA, AU).
You can connect your Smart Controller to your Amazon Echo, Echo Dot or Echo Show and use voice commands via Alexa to control your blinds. All you need is to have the Amazon Alexa app in your device with an account set up and follow the steps below.
Access Skills & Games
Open the Amazon Alexa app on your device and tap on the menu located in the upper left corner. Then, tap on "Skills & Games".
Enable the Neo Smart Blinds skill
Using the search field, search for Neo Smart Blinds. Tap on the Neo Smart Blinds icon, then tap on "Enable to use" button.
Enter your login information for your Smart Controller
Provide your Neo Smart Blinds login information (email and password). Tap on "Allow" to proceed.
Authorize Amazon Alexa
Before accepting, make sure your Smart Controller is online (plugged into the wall charger and with pulsing cyan/blue-green LED). Tap on the Authorize button.
Go back to the Alexa app; it will prompt you to discover devices. If you don't see this option, tap on the left corner menu, then choose Devices.
To discover devices, use the voice command "Alexa, discover devices". Since Amazon Alexa does not have a category Blinds, all your blinds will only be listed under the “All Devices” section of the Alexa app.
Scenes in the Smart Controller app will be also imported to the Alexa app.
Alexa voice commands
Use Open and Close commands to control your devices. They can be used either with room names from the Smart Controller app or groups that you have created in the Amazon Alexa app with rooms assigned. Commands “turn on” and “turn off” are still supported and you can keep using them if you prefer.
Alexa, open Living room
“Living room” is the name of a room in the Smart Controller app.
Alexa, open all blinds
“All blinds” is the name of a group in the Amazon Alexa app
Using Alexa to control all blinds
Creating a group in the Alexa app with all your Smart Controller rooms is easy and will allow you to control all your blinds with a single voice command. To create a group, follow the step-by-step instructions below.
Access the Devices page
Open the Amazon Alexa app, tap on the menu icon in the upper left corner, then select Smart Home.
Add a group
Tap on the plus button located on the top right corner of the app. On the bottom of the page, tap on "Add Group".
Name your group as "All blinds"
The name of the group is the keyword you are going to use in the voice command. In this example we chose "All blinds". Remember to always choose names that will sound natural to you. Tap on the next button to continue.
Select the all rooms and save
Select all Smart Controller rooms by tapping on it. All the devices imported from our app will show with blind icons. Tap on the Save button to save the group.
Use the name of the group in the voice command
Use the command “close” and “open” to control “all blinds” group, or any other group.
Alexa, close all blinds.
When creating routines in the Alexa app, you can include imported rooms or imported scenes from the Smart Controller app. To do that, when adding an action to your routine, tap on "Smart Home", then select "All devices" or "Control scene". The desired room or scene will be listed on the page. For imported rooms, choose one of the three options available: blinds (on will open, off will close), favourite position (on will move the blind to its favourite position, if the motor has this feature) and stop.
Scenes made in the Smart Controller app will be imported to the Alexa App when using the "Alexa, discover devices" command or using the "Discover Scenes" button located at the bottom of the Scenes page. There is a limit imposed by Amazon; only the 12 scenes will be imported to Alexa.
Before continuing, make sure you can still operate your blinds using the Neo Smart Blind app. Also read the previous instructions to be familiar with how your rooms and scenes will be discovered and imported to Alexa using our Neo Smart Blinds Skill.
Ensure the discovered devices, rooms from the Neo Smart Blinds app, have different names from groups created in the Alexa app. If necessary, rename the devices discovered in the Alexa app.
If only your Alexa routines stopped working:
- Check if the routine still has the devices,
- If not, you need to re-add the desired devices.
If Alexa voice commands have stopped working or if Alexa cannot discover some or all your devices, please follow the steps below to properly disable and re-enable the Neo Smart Blinds Skill.
- Make sure your Smart Controller is online and working with the Neo Smart Blinds app.
- Disable the Neo Smart Blinds Skill using the Amazon Alexa app.
- Make sure to delete all devices and scenes that were previously imported to Alexa app from the Neo Smart Blinds skill. You have to do it manually, device by device. Alexa app does not automatically remove all the devices not sync anymore with a skill, which is the source of most issues.
- Close the Amazon Alexa app, make sure to close it, not just hide.
- Open Alexa again and add the skill.
Only your rooms and scenes will be imported, not individual blinds. Routines may need to be configured again.
